Abstract:

Materials collected by the Committee, formed in 1927, and of which Boas was chairman, and Manuel J. Andrade, Jaime de Angulo, Roland B. Dixon, Pliny E. Goddard, Berard Haile, John P. Harrington, Harry Hoijer, Melville Jacobs, Diamond Jenness, Alfred V. Kidder, Alfred L. Kroeber, Truman Michelson, Franz M. Olbrechts, Gladys A. Reichard, Frank G. Speck, Edgar H. Sturtevant, Morris Swadesh, and John R. Swanton were members. The materials primarily concern native American language, but also contain much miscellaneous non-linguistic material, such as data on folklore and mythology, and general ethnology. Additional items have been added to this archive over the years, most notable being a number of Edward Sapir manuscripts presented by his family and colleagues in 1972.
