Abstract:

Negative photographs documenting the history of the Gettysburg battlefield and the Gettysburg National Military Park.

Chiefly negatives documenting the work of the U.S. National Park Service including images of members of the Civilian Conservation Corps working on projects in the park, post-Civil War development on the battlefield, accidents in the park, and memorial activities commemorating the Civil War; together with smaller, but significant collection of images taken when the Gettysburg National Park Commission ran the park under the jurisdiction of the U.S. War Dept. (1895-1922); copy negatives of 19th century Civil War images; and images of the Gettysburg battlefield and surrounding area collected by park staff from other sources and repositories.
