A group of seventeen unpublished autograph letters and two autograph cards of Giacomo Puccini, written to George Maxwell, Ricordi's agent in New York, and the first president of the American Society of Composers, Authors, and Publishers (ASCAP). These previously unknown letters discuss La fanciulla del West, and include a request for Maxwell's help in getting an agreement from David Belasco so that the work could be turned into an opera. Other works covered in these letters include Tosca and La bohème.
