When a class of bored fifth graders listen to their teacher read picture book about a girl in Uganda whose life is changed after her family gets a goat, the students decide to help someone else. They enlist the help of their librarian to research Heifer International and set out to earn money for the cause. They are successful and the book ends as the kids think about what book their teacher is going to read to them next. It is not often that a picture book can motivate readers to try and change the world but this one can. I was charmed by the book not the title which left me cold and would buy it and recommend it to teachers.
