Abstract:

Apart from his daily profession, Delfgaauw started working as an artist in commission and his paintings were selling well. At first his paintings were mainly bought by friends. Later on his work became more and more appraised by a broader public and subsequently Delfgaauw became a well-know and admired man in Rijswijk. Delfgaauw mainly focussed on painting ports, landscapes and cityscapes. Well-know work, besides the many paintings of the Rotterdam docks, are for example the cityscapes he made of Doetichem (still exhibited in the local museum), Amsterdam, Rotterdam, Enkhuizen, Giethoorn, Wijk bij Duurstede, Delft and Bruges.
