I read some of the other reviews and I can see their point, but I take things more at face value and don't try to read (not a pun here) too much into them. Gone Girl review

The novel was very entertaining but the whole sequence of events was a bit incredulous.  Raised interesting views about the Midwest.  The ending felt unrealistic.
