Abstract:

This report focuses on how people in poverty, with low incomes, and of low socioeconomic status experience disasters. It explores the differences in risk perception and disaster preparedness, response, and recovery. Although it provides some information on international disaster events, it is primarily focused on disasters that have affected communities within the United States. Research suggests that people of differing socioeconomic statuses may prepare for a disaster differently.
