Abstract:

A memorial booklet containing addresses delivered in April 2006 in commemoration of Dr. Gunther Helbig, who had served for many years as a board member of the Jewish community of Magdeburg and passed away in March. Includes articles written by Helbig on the fate of the Jews of Dessau and the "Kristallnacht" pogrom. Helbig was born in 1923 in Dessau, had to leave high school in 1935, and was arrested during the "Kristallnacht" pogrom. His father, who was not Jewish, saved Helbig's mother from deportation; she did forced labor in Dessau.
