Abstract:

Abstract: Long Term Evolution (LTE) is a standard for wireless communications technology of high-speed data for mobile phones and wireless data terminals. Long Term Evolution Advanced (LTE Advanced) is a major enhancement of the Long Term Evolution (LTE) standard. LTE Advanced has adopted the Single-Carrier Frequency Division Multiple Access (SCFDMA) scheme for uplink transmission due to its lower Peak to Average Power Ratio (PAPR) compared to Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiple Access (OFDMA). However, the PAPR is still an issue for SCFDMA, when pulse shaping is considered. In this thesis, we analyze the PAPR of pulse shaped SCFDMA signals and propose a scheme called "Hadamard SCFDMA," for reduction in PAPR of pulse shaped signals. We furthermore investigate the Symbol Error Rate (SER) performance of both SCFDMA and the proposed Hadamard SCFDMA system. The results show that Hadamard SCFDMA with pulse shaping is an effective technique to reduce PAPR.
