Abstract:
The papers from Forbes's campaign against the French at Fort Duquesne contain correspondence, reports about Indian allies and the colonial governments, military returns and instructions, intelligence reports and some financial papers. They concern strategy, supply, the advance across Pennsylvania, colonial cooperation, provisioning of the troops, Indian negotiations and relations with British and colonial officers.
Material is present from other British campaigns in the French and Indian war, particularly the assault at Fort Ticonderoga, the massacre at Fort William Henry, the siege of Louisburg, and Braddock's defeat which is described in the letterbook of Sir John St. Clair, the highest ranking officer to survive.
