Abstract:

"Everyone wishes to live a life that is satisfying and fulfilling, in which there is achievement and pleasure, and which has the respect of people one respects in turn. Such a life adds value to the experience of the person living it, and to the world that person occupies. To add value involves making good choices; and to make good choices requires being informed and reflective. This miscellany of essays, grouped by theme into observations on personal and public life, and on a variety of thinkers and ideas, is offered as a contribution towards the task of reflection that leads to the good life."--Jacket.
