Bill Campbell

Abstract:

Bill Campbell was born in Chicago, Illinois, and grew up on Chicago’s South Side. Campbell earned his B.A. degree in urban studies from Carleton College in Northfield, Minnesota. He returned to Chicago and worked as a program specialist in the office of the mayor; and served as the director of communications for the Chicago Urban League. In 1978, Campbell was hired as director of community services at WSL-TV, the ABC owned-and-operated station, where he became host and producer of a weekly news magazine show, Chicagoing, which aired on Sunday mornings until December 26, 2010. Campbell won three Chicago Emmys for Outstanding Editorial Achievement. Campbell was also a several advisory boards, including the National Conference for Community and Justice; and the Cultural Affairs Advisory Board for the City of Chicago. He received numerous awards and honors for his contributions to the community, including the Chicago Urban League's Beautiful People Award in 1985.
