Abstract:

Broadcast executive George L. Miles, Jr. was born on November 13, 1941 in Orange, New Jersey. He earned his B.A. degree in accounting from Seton Hall University in 1963 and his M.B.A. degree from Fairleigh Dickinson University in 1970. Miles worked for the Department of Defense in the Defense Audit Agency as a contract auditor for six years. In 1969, he worked with Touche Ross & Company in New York City. Miles joined KDKA-TV in Pittsburgh in 1978, working as business manager and controller. In 1983, Westinghouse Broadcasting assigned Miles to serve as chief administrative officer for National Public Radio. Between 1984 and 1994, he served as executive vice president & COO for WNET/13 in New York City. In 1994, Miles was appointed president and CEO of WQED Multimedia, a public broadcasting media company in Pittsburgh, comprised of WQED-TV, WQEX-TV, WQED-FM and PITTSBURGH magazine.
