Abstract:
At the heart of contemporary historical research, the role of the Ministry for State Security is essential to understand the position of universities in the communist regime of the GDR. This thesis presents the system that the Ministry for State Security set up to monitor and influence the Karl-Marx University Lepizig in the seventies. The university world represented a sensitive topic in the GDR because some members of the university were frequently in touch with the Federal Republic of Germany considered to be the enemy in the Cold War. The aim of the Stasi was to detect and fight against all actions that is considered negative. The system that the Ministry for State Security created was a stable onebased on a large network of unofficial informers who had various functions and official correpondence with the members of the university management that completed the secret information. The work carried out was omnipresent at the University of Leipzig, and its nature was preventive, the aim being to collect as much information as possible about each member of the university.
