Concert recording of a work in thirteen sections evoking aspects of the life of Zarif Khan, an Afghani who left his home near the Khyber Pass, wandered through India, and immigrated to the American West in 1909. Khan opened a restaurant in Sheridan, Wyoming named Hot Tamale Louie's and lived there until his death in 1964. The piece combines Western ballads, Mexican waltzes, folk songs and melodies, ragtime, jazz, and accompanied monologues that explore themes of immigration and citizenship
