Abstract:

Abstract: The primary purpose of this project is to establish a relation between patients who had an examination for oral cancer. This relation was analyzed based on variables like age, sex, regions, ethnic groups, marital status, employment status, cigarette smoking and alcohol consumption. The data used was from National Health Interview Survey (NHIS). A total sample of 21781 cases was taken into consideration, out of which 20924 were valid cases. The statistical software SPSS 17.0 was used for the data analysis. Results were investigated and the discussion established that, age, regional areas and ethnic groups played a significant role in determining the difference in patients who did and did not have oral cancer examination. Cigarette smoking and alcohol consumption which are the primary risk factors were not able to show a strong association with oral cancer. This was one of the important limitations of the study. The association between certain other factors and oral cancer was also not very evident in the study.
