Abstract:

This program explores the components of the immune system and describes how they work together to protect the body. It reviews the main organs that comprise the human immune system - the thymus, the bone marrow and the cells it produces, the lymph system, and the spleen; explains the role of leukocytes; and examines the main functional divisions of the immune system - the innate system and the adaptive system. The proram also looks at the innate immune system and its main sentinels and warriors, including macrophages, neutrophils, and NK cells and considers the purposes and functions of the adaptive immune system.
