Abstract:

Abstract: The purpose of this study was to investigate the effectiveness of breastfeeding WIC infants. Specifically, this study evaluated the height and weight of breastfed and formula fed infants participating in WIC at 6 months of age. Information on the WIC infant's height and weight were gathered through the use of ExtraNet, which provided a snapshot of ISIS Individual and Family data and allowed to view a clinic's Breastfeeding Summary. A total of 241 WIC infants at 6 months of age participated in the study. A total 131 formula fed infants were gathered from WHCC WIC site 002 and 110 breastfed infants were gathered from various WHCC WIC sites 001, 002, 003, and 004. Data were excluded if information was not listed at 6 months of age. A two independent sample t -test was used to examine if there was a difference in height and weight between WIC infants who were breastfeeding or not breastfeeding at 6 months with a significance level of p {600} .05. Results showed that there was no significant difference in height and weight between WIC infants who were breastfed and formula fed at 6 months of age.
