Abstract:

In this time of person-centered healthcare home and electronic health record incentives, the integration of the behavioral health and primary care practice model has hit some barriers. Through a survey and follow up interviews, these barriers were identified to include electronic health record implementation, documentation, and access. Other challenges include confidentiality, privacy, and reimbursement regulations that vary among states. These have led to a variety of integration methods used throughout the United States. It is recommended that administrators and providers of behavioral health and primary care integration perform an analysis of external environment and internal needs before choosing an electronic health record.
