Abstract:

A biography of the French Jew, journalist, and politician (1905-1995), based on his writings. A member of the Socialist Party, Pierre-Bloch fought all his life against racism and xenophobia. In 1929 he became a member of the LICA (Ligue Internationale Contre Antisémitisme). In 1930 he began to write for the socialist daily "Populaire". Describes political life at the end of the 1930s, and struggles in the Socialist Party in 1938-39 between the pro-Munich and anti-Munich wings. In 1941 Pierre-Bloch fled to England and joined the French government-in-exile. Deals, as well, with his postwar anti-racist activities. In 1968 Pierre-Bloch became the president of the LICA and director of the journal "Le Droit de Vivre". Pp. 193-231 relate to the situation in Algeria from 1870 to the 1960s, and the involvement of Pierre-Bloch in the struggle for equal rights for both Muslims and Jews.
