Notes: Hebrew text on title page, translated on page vi of preface as a biblical quotation from Genesis, 1, v. xiv: "And let them be for signs, and for seasons, and for days and years." The author explains the custom of using chronograms: the letters written larger than the text to represent numerals which when added up represent the year, in this case 598 (that is, 1838, the thousands being generally omitted).
