Discusses discrimination against the Jews in the Middle Ages until the French period in Kleef (the duchy to which Gennep belonged) - e.g. restrictions in settlement (Schutzgeld payments), in professions, in marriages, and special taxes. Gives an account of the events in the 1940-45 period, the confiscation of the synagogue by the Germans, the deprivation of rights of Jews, and the deportation of 20 Jews who did not survive. Some Jews went into hiding.
