Abstract:

The collection consists of approximately 130 letters written by John W. Norton to his wife and children, and to one of his business partners, Thomas C. Pease, covering the years 1896 to 1899. The collection also includes a letter written to Norton by C.G. Pringle in 1894, encouraging him to come to Mexico, and a letter dated February 3, 1900, describing Norton's death.

The letters include information about management of the coffee plantation and about life in Mexico. They also reveal Norton's concern about his wife and children in Rutland, Vermont, and contain much advice about finances, his daughters' education and household management.
