Abstract:

Correspondence, research materials, newspaper clippings, photographs, manuscripts and galley proofs, and assorted material relating to twentieth-century Mexican history, economic conditions, politics and government. Correspondence relates to Dulles' research and publishing activities, and to the history, politics, and economics of Mexico. Edward S. Wallace was a frequent correspondent. Research materials include typescripts of notes and summaries of interviews with various Mexican political figures and their acquaintances. Interviews and newspaper clippings relate primarily to political leaders including Alberto J. Pani, Adolfo de la Huerta, Plutarco Elías Calles, Álvaro Obregon, Emilio Portes Gil, and Lázaro Cárdenas. Included in the collection are autographed photographs of early twentieth-century Mexican presidents, as well as photographs of Dulles and a few photographs of mines. Manuscripts and galley proofs are of Dulles' publication, Yesterday in Mexico, and J. Lloyd Mecham's The United States and inter-American security. Assorted material includes reports on mines and mineral resources in Mexico, speeches by Dulles, and a few maps of Mexico.
