All Authors / Contributors: May Sarton
OCLC Number: 1099327
Description: 90 pages 22 cm
Contents: Dedication: the first autumn --
The sacred wood --
At the bottom of the green field she lies --
Roses --
Summer music --
As does New Hampshire --
Transition --
The swans --
Villanelle for fireworks --
Reflected tree --
Provence --
Journey by train --
Evening journey --
The new tourist --
From all our journeys --
Where warriors stood --
Take anguish for companion --
Innumerable friend --
Tiger --
The caged bird --
The land of silence --
Letter to an Indian friend --
The dream --
Of prayer --
The tree --
Winter grace --
Of friendship --
Augenblick --
To an honest friend --
Truth --
Lullaby --
A light left on --
Because what I want most is permanence --
Song --
Leaves before the wind --
In a dry land --
Prothalamion --
Evening music --
Kinds of wind --
The seas of wheat --
Myth. (Cont.) The images remain (eleven sonnets) Now that the evening gathers up the day --
Even such fervor must seek out an end --
So to release the soul, search out the soul --
The rose has opened and is all accomplished --
Out of deep wells of sleep all night they rose --
The real conflict is death and that is why --
But parting is return, the coming home --
The stone resists: The chisel does destroy --
What angel can I leave, gentle and stern --
These images remain, these classic landscapes --
Here are the peaceful days we never knew --
Without the violence --
Humpty Dumpty --
Giant in the garden --
Two songs --
The fullness of time --
Song --
Narcissus --
Boy by the waterfall --
Journey toward poetry --
Italian garden --
Letter from Chicago --
Poets and the rain --
On a winter night --
Now I become myself.
