Abstract:

Mar. 2, 1773, letter, erroneously dated 1772, from Guy Johnson to his uncle, Sir William Johnson, regarding the status of the "Mohock Bill" in the assembly.

The bill, "An act for securing to the Indians of the lower Mohawk village and their descendants, the possession of the remainder of their lands adjacent to the same, under a certain limitation," was opposed by the corporation of the city of Albany. As Johnson predicted in his letter, Robert Yates and "one of their Aldermen," Guysbert Marselis, succeeded in gaining a postponement until the next session of the legislature.
