Letter addressed to physician and surgeon John TenBrook, Alexander's brother-in-law, in Paris, Edgar County, Illinois. Alexander comments on vessels bringing troops, military maneuvers and the amount of troops involved. He mentions the health and ailments of some men including his own leg wound that might involve amputation and fears of Yellow Fever. He discusses the progress of the war with references to Santa Ana, General Winfield Scott, and "Rough and Ready" Zachary Taylor.
