Richard Davis Webb has read in the Liberator of the arrival of M[onsieur] Laugel and family in Boston and comments "what a reception he will get from all who appreciate the talents & labours he has devoted to the Federal cause." Webb mentions "the tide of ignorance & prejudice which sweeps the vast majority of the newspaper reading public before it in this country." The Times is the idol and mouthpiece for 19/20 of all whom Richard D. Webb meets. Some here wish that the South may establish independence because they fear for England if the Union should be restored. Webb has long wished that Abraham Lincoln might be the next president. Miss (Frances Power) Cobbe, who is bringing out a complete edition of Theodore Parker's works, is an intimate friend of Miss Mary Anne Estlin.
