Abstract:

"Lost Town tells the story of the town of Trochenbrod, and one man's search to uncover its 130-year history. First made famous by Jonathan Safran Foer's Everything Is Illuminated, Trochenbrod was the only all-Jewish town ever to exist outside of Palestine. Trochenbrod's 5,000 Jews were murdered by the Nazis: only 33 townspeople survived the massacres. After a first visit to the site of Trochenbrod, Avrom Bendavid-Val was seized by a passion to recover the story of the life and spirit that was lost in what had been his father's home town. His personal search triggered a resurgence of interest in the town and reconnected the few remaining survivors who hadn't seen each other in over 60 years"--Container.
