Abstract:

This book is a basic psychiatric textbook written from the African experience. It examines the patterns of mental disease in Africa and takes into account the facilities, often primitive, which are available to practitioners in the field. For the non-medical reader there is much of interest in this book, especially for those interested in child development and social factors affecting life adjustment in Africa. Numerous case examples are included to illustrate various clinical conditions as well as such topics as the power of the fear of witchcraft to cause distressing symptons.
