Abstract:

Abstract: Annually, an estimated 25,000 adolescent foster youth are discharged from foster care with expectations that they will function independently as young adults. Foster care youth often lack the adult support necessary to help them through this difficult transition. An adult mentor has proved to be a stabilizing, normalizing, and protective force in the lives of emancipating young adults. The purpose of this grant proposal was to detail/structure a mentoring program designed for 16- to 21-year-old emancipating foster youth with implementation through the Los Angeles County Department of Children and Family Services. An extensive literature review was performed to investigate the best way to structure/ present this proposal for the ultimate procurement of program funding. A thorough search of potential funders was conducted to locate an appropriate one. The actual submission and/or funding of the grant was not a requirement for the successful completion of this proposal.
