Murder Contest Fanzine was a radical publication, a 'DIY', full-size hardcore zine made between 2002-2005. It was founded by Gloria Lin when she was 19 with the first issue compiled from a base in Taiwan, R.O.C and completed in Leeds, West Yorkshire. Simon Phillips was co-editor and played bass in the bands In The Clear and SecondsxOut.
Bands covered included contemporary European and North American hardcore punk, featuring never-seen Black Flag photographs, interviews with Alec Mackaye and 'other histories' of figures and bands from decades before.
All articles and extensive reviews were written and cut out and pasted by the two. Primary media used were photocopy, paper scissors and glue. The average page count per issue was 60. Distributed in underground DIY networks throughout Europe, North America and Asia.
<div>All three issues were handmade with almost all analogue photography by Gloria and Simon except where North American bands weren't interviewed in person.</div>Murder Contest T shirts were made at a very limited run, given to close friends and sold.
