Abstract:

This manuscript kept by Henry Woodcock contains over 25 songs, pieces for solo instrument (probably flute or violin), and keyboard solos. Many pieces are titled. Some keyboard pieces were lessons, and several vocal compositions indicate that they were performed in such notable British venues as Vaux-Hall and Public Gardens. Several of the pieces were composed by James Burney, Mr. Felson, or John Camidge, "organist of York Minster," probably the instructors with whom Woodcock studied. There are also several songs by Dr. [Thomas] Arne, a noted light opera composer.
