Copies are often found coloured; those in which Gold is used may have been coloured early. Keynes (Blake studies [1971], 103) says that, besides the ordinary copies of 21.5 x 26.6 cm., there are copies on large paper of 23 x 29.5 cm. with the imprint in Vol. I as 'London Printed by J. Johnson ... (the Vol. II imprint is corrected as above) and 'the plates admirably coloured by hand'--Bentley.
The name of Blake (Mr. Wm.) London is on page [viii] in the list of "Subscribers Names."
"The 81 plates are dated Dec. 1792, Dec. 1793, Dec. 1794, and Dec. 1795, and 39 have no engraver's name. Thirteen are signed "Blake Sculpt."; besides these, GEB & Keynes (1921) are confident that Blake also engraved the plates opposite volume 1, page 227; volume 2, page 104; and volume 2, page 296, which are not signed."--Bentley.
Of the other sixty-five plates 13 are signed by Barlow, 7 by T. Conder, 3 by Bartolozzi, 2 each by Benedetti and A. Smith, and 1 each by T. Holloway and Perry.
