Abstract:

John Sullivan was born in 1740 Somersworth, New Hampshire, the son of Owen O'Sullivan. He studied law and started a practice at Durham, New Hampshire. In 1774, he was chosen as a delegate in the first Continental Congress and then joined the army. After he retired from the continetal army in 1779, he served in Congress, served two terms as governor of New Hampshire, served as New Hampshire Attorney General, and practiced law. He died of a stroke in 1795, survived by his wife, three sons, and a daughter.
