Abstract:

Argues that radical anti-Zionism, the goal of which is the destruction of Israel, represents the latest form of Judeophobia. Analyzes the development, between 2000-2010, of anti-Israeli propaganda, which has enabled radical anti-Zionism to reach global proportions. The propaganda uses old antisemitic stereotypes, like Jewish "chosenness", blood libel accusations, and conspiracy theories, and demonizes "Zionism" in order to justify the use of violence, including terror, against Israel. States that the anti-Jewish discourse is part of an international context, which is marked by Islamist threats centering around calls for "jihad" against the Jews. Anti-Jewish discourse is currently shaped by Islamist Judeophobia, which views reality with demonizing prejudices and ascribes to the conflict between "global Zionism" and radical anti-Zionism apocalyptic dimensions. Judeophobia has created a new respectable track for itself by perverting anti-racism (as in the UN conferences Durban I held in 2001, and "Durban II" - actually held in Geneva - in 2009) and attaching itself to the Palestinian cause. It uses false testimonies, rumors, and fraudulent media images. The Mohammed Al-Dura affair in 2000 and the supposed "massacre" in Jenin in 2002 are examples of this. Discusses, also, biased media reports on Operation Cast Lead in Gaza (December 2008-January 2009), and Iran's role in Israel's demonization.
