Abstract:

"The first complete collection of the writings of the visionary French conceptual artist Yves Klein (1928-1962) published in English translation. Klein was an artist with a keen philosophical mind, yet deeply spiritual. He was an agitateur d'idees, an agitator of ideas who used his considerable charisma to propagate social change through art." "When he theorized about his practice of art, he did so by speculating out of a general culture that includes philosophical, scientific, and political ideas. Yet Klein left two major bodies of writing in which he addressed the predicament of modern art quite explicitly in philosophical terms: "Overcoming the Problematics of Art" was to be his ethics; "The Monochrome Adventure," his aesthetics. Together with the other texts contained in this volume, they form the critical part of his artistic legacy."--Jacket.
