Correspondence, estate papers, accounts, agreements, bills, deeds, legal documents, justice of the peace records, promissory notes, receipts, and other papers, chiefly of Nathaniel Ames II (1708-1764), almanac maker, physician, and tavern keeper, and his son, Nathaniel Ames III (1741-1822), almanac maker and physician; almanacs written and published by both men, first in Bridgewater, Mass., and after 1730, Dedham; diary (1758-1822) of Nathaniel Ames III, reflecting his years at Harvard (class of 1761), life-long medical practice in Dedham, positions as clerk of the Court of Common Pleas, Norfolk County and justice of the peace, political criticism, gardening, and a coded record of 64 years of weather; ledger (ca. 1758-1768) of Deborah (Fisher) Ames Woodward, wife of Nathaniel Ames II; diary (1835-1880) of William Ames, lawyer, containing newspaper articles and notes on weather and local events; and papers (1774-1829) of Fisher Ames (1758-1808), lawyer and U.S. representative, including fragments of his newspaper essays and speeches, some legal papers, business accounts, and correspondence concerning his ventures in the India trade.
