Abstract:

Papers of Capt. Thomas Saunders (also spelled Sanders) of the sloop Massachusetts during King George's War, in particular during the siege of Louisbourg (Cape Breton, N.S.) in 1745. Letters and orders to Sanders pertain to transports, requests for vessels, and the delivery of supplies and provisions. His correspondents include Mass. governors Jonathan Belcher, William Shirley, Spencer Phips, and Thomas Pownall; Sir William Pepperrell; and Sir Peter Warren. Other items include Saunders's will (1773), an account for the sale of a negro, a few items pertaining to the treaty with the Indians at St. George's River (1751), and a few items of Saunders's son, Thomas Sanders.
