Abstract:

Chiefly correspondence, deeds, legal documents, financial records, and other papers of Roger Sherman (1721-1793), signer of the Declaration of Independence and U.S. Constitution, relating to political affairs, his surveying work, mercantile business, and duties as judge and justice of the peace; photos; and miscellaneous documents pertaining to Sherman and other family members. Contains complaint against Benedict Arnold and warrant signed by Sherman for Arnold's arrest; and Revolutionary War papers including receipt for money for New Haven troops in the Continental Army and report of committee investigating Walter Livingston.
