Abstract:

Correspondence includes a letter from Amos Hitchcock in New York City to his wife concerning a Revolutionary War battle, 1776; letters to Thompson offering congratulations on his life from Dillon Wallace, H.J.W. Alcot, William T. Hornaday, Amelia E. Barr, and Bird W. Spencer, 1913-1918; and a letter to Spencer from Theodore Roosevelt, 1917, and one from Spencer to Ray H. Barbour with an obituary of Thompson, 1918. Thompson's diary for 1865-1870 with his account of Pres. Lincoln's assassination and other comments on social life and an attempted robbery at the bank where he was working. Clippings concerning Lincoln's assassination, family news, and obituaries, 1865-1918. Military commissions of Amos Hitchcock, 1776, and Hunn Hitchcock, 1801-1808; and memorial pamphlets on Thompson, 1918, and his wife Jennie Crary Thompson, 1911.
