Abstract:

Collection contains correspondence, minutes, journals, and other materials relating to Baker's involvement as a contributor and editor of THE ENCYCLOPEDIA OF WORLD METHODISM, published in 1984. There are carbon copies of the articles he submitted. Also included are materials relating to the publication of JOHN WESLEY AND THE ANGLICAN CHURCH, JOHN WESLEY'S FIRST HYMN-BOOK, and JOHN WESLEY, the latter a collection of Wesley's writing (edited by Albert C. Outler) of which Baker wrote an extensive appraisal. There are materials relating to the history of Methodism in Liverpool, England, and the Scottish missionary David Livingston, as well as an early 19th century book of collected engravings, mostly of people and churches in England. There are also several pass books from the National Deposit Friendly Society (London), possibly kept by his wife.

Some materials relate to the Oxford Bicentennial Edition of THE WORKS OF JOHN WESLEY, which Frank Baker edited. Included are notes, reference materials and copy edited typescript pages for volume 10; and "style-edited" typescript transcriptions of extracts from the journals of John Wesley.
