Abstract:

The Vic Zimet Collection offers insights to the world of amateur boxing through Mr. Zimet's 50 plus years as boxing coach, teacher, and administrator. The material in the collection spans the period from the 1960s until Mr. Zimet's death in 2003. The collection's strength lies in the rich material pertaining to U.S. Olympics boxing and Golden Gloves competitions, as well as in boxing history and the art of coaching. While personal correspondence is sparse, this is compensated by original writing in the form of a manual drafted by Mr. Zimet about how to teach boxing. Otherwise, the bulk of the collection is comprised of memorabilia and ephemera acquired by Mr. Zimet over the years.
