Abstract:

The papers of the Council contain organizational records including minutes, correspondence, incorporation papers, resolutions, financial statements, long-range planning records, legislative priorities and lobbying material, membership lists, tax records, newsclippings, reports, and recommendations of the Council and the Conservation Council of Virginia Foundation, incorporated 1975, to educate the public and encourage citizen participation in environmental decision making.

Council committee records include both those of internal administration committees and of subcommittees dealing with environmental issues.

Topical files cover environmental issues, projects, specific legislation, conferences, forums and workshops. Major topics include strip mining, waste management, land development, preservation of scenic, historic and environmentally unique areas, water quality control, and controversial dams, highways, industries and development.

There is also a run of the Virginia Environmental Legislative Reporter.

Harry Byrd, Jr., Paul Trible, and John Warner are among the correspondents.
