Abstract:

Correspondence and printed and nearprint items related mainly to the conservation activities of Clement, a Minneapolis insurance executive. They pertain largely to the Izaak Walton League of America (IWLA) and the IWLA Endowment when Clement was most active in its Minnesota division (1939-1940), when he was national president (1944-1946), and when a controversy developed over use of IWLA Endowment funds (1964-1965). Minnesota issues are prominent, especially logging, mining, and road building in the Quetico-Superior area. There is also material on other conservation organizations, including Friends of the Wilderness, the Nature Conservancy, the Quetico-Superior Foundation, and the President's Quetico-Superior Committee.

In addition, the papers document Clement's interest in conservative political causes and in state and national insurance organizations, particularly the Minnesota Commercial Men's Association.
