Abstract:

Three films (all dealing with the theme of adultery) released before June 1934 when the Production Code Administration under Will Hays and Joseph Breen started enforcing the Production Code.

Of human bondage: Melodrama based on Somerset Maugham's autobiographical novel, the film revolves around Philip Carey (Howard), a young, sensitive medical student crippled with a club foot in Edwardian London. Carey's infatuation with Mildred Rogers (Davis), a Cockney waitress, only brings him sorrow and despair.

Millie: Melodrama about Millie (Twelvetrees), a divorced mother, who kills a man she has rejected romantically when he takes up with her 16-year-old daughter. At the trial only her daughter can really tell what happened.

Kept husband: A rich man invites an ordinary worker to his house for dinner. His daughter falls in love with him, marries him and takes him on endless trips. Then her father comes to his aid and offers him an important role in his business. The daughter feels neglected and starts to flirt with other men.
