Abstract:

This report examines the use and effectiveness of anti-bullying policies in a sample of government schools in Australia. Students, teachers, parents and educational administrators from 26 primary and secondary schools were surveyed on the schools' approaches to bullying, perceived and reported bullying, the impact of bullying on students, gender differences in the nature and prevalence of bullying, gender differences in how schools respond, informing parents of incidents, bystander behaviour, proactive and reactive school approaches, school resources, and perceived effectiveness of school responses. The report concludes with recommendations for schools and further research.
