Abstract:

Presents the figure of Judas Iscariot, a symbol of perfidy, of a traitor. Because of Judas, the Jews were accused throughout history as traitors. Considers that this accusation was one of the important causes of persecutions and pogroms against the Jews. Analyzes all the texts of the New Testament in which Judas appears, and argues that Judas personifies the scapegoat in the first Christian community. He became an expiatory victim, who would take upon himself all the misfortunes of the group. Discusses, also, other theological hypotheses according to which Judas was an instrument of God.
