Abstract:

Memoirs of a Polish Jew, born in 1926 in Łódź. In 1940 she and her family had to move to the ghetto; in 1942 she was deported with her parents to Auschwitz, where her parents were gassed on arrival. Kaufmann was sent to Bergen-Belsen and then to the Torgau labor camp, where she worked for the defense industry. In April 1945 the camp was evacuated; Kaufmann participated in a death transport to Berlin, but managed to escape and return to Łódź. Antisemitism in postwar Poland led to emigration with her husband to Israel.
