Abstract:

The papers comprise correspondence, publications, and court documents related to two different events involving MacMullen. One event was the denial of sponsorship by Yale for scholar Herbert Aptheker's seminar on the work of W.E.B. DuBois. The other event was the case Evans v. Romer regarding Amendment 2 in Colorado, a case involving lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer people's (LGBTQ) rights and discrimination where MacMullen offered expert testimony regarding acceptance of LGBTQ people in antiquity. Materials related to Aptheker include correspondence from the time of the event, later correspondence in response to research and/or writing about the denial of sponsorship, and copies of publications and manuscripts. Materials related to Evans v. Romer include correspondence, court documents, and publications either immediately from the case or from studies or inquiries about the case.
